After years of identity crisis, Green Europe has represented a new vision – one capable of fighting the existential crisis posed by anthropogenic climate change with an economic growth strategy aiming at decarbonisation through innovation, job creation, industrial capacity. Europe confronted the pandemic as a single body. Faced with the war in Ukraine it further accelerated the European green agenda making it an integral part of the search for greater energy security. But are we really out of the tunnel? On the horizon there is the risk of a national-populist resurgence in the European elections of next year, which would push the energy transition aside. There are also the fragilities of our neighborhood, starting from the Middle East, which threaten to spread with the intertwining of the climate crisis and a turbulent energy transition. And then there is the specter of a world increasingly divided by the rivalry between the United States and China and incapable of cooperatively addressing the epochal challenge of climate change. Each of these risks has significant consequences for socioeconomic, geographic and gender disparities.
Will we be able to stay the course in the turbulent years that await us, thus emerging from the tunnel of the great crisis? We will talk about all that with Nathalie Tocci, the author of the book she will be presenting to us. With her, we will also address the issues of inequalities and of the role of women in this complex context.
